It has been an exciting 2024 so far at HighWire and at MPS! We started the year off with a bang, officially announcing the creation of MPSLabs, our AI/ML and NLP incubator focused on developing researcher and publisher focused technology solutions. The excitement continued as we announced the acquisition of American Journal Experts, including the innovative new editing and translation platform Curie — Welcome AJE to the MPS family!
Even with those exciting announcements, 2024 was already proving to be a banner year with the introduction of three new HighWire platform products, THINK365, our web enabled customer service and order processing software, DigiCorePro, our new end-to-end publishing workflow system based on the principles of single source publishing, and Insight Vizor, our new publisher-centric analytics product that combines COUNTER data with other metrics to provide useful business analytics to editors, sales staff and marketing teams.
In this newsletter, we invite you to explore everything we accomplished in the past quarter.
What’s New?
Being true to our commitment of creating ‘Innovation in service of the scholarly community’, we launched MPSLabs, our research and development center, a year ago. The center uses AI/ML, NLP, and cloud-based technologies to create robust architecture and digital solutions. We are proud of our growth, housing over a hundred engineers and industry experts now! Our team has worked with publishers for multiple projects including image generation, ALT-text writing, content structuring and much more! You can read more about MPSLabs on our website.

Product Spotlight (HighWire Hosting Platform)
Joshua Routh, our Director of Hosting Products, discusses an added feature that we provided to a client recently through HighWire’s Hosting Solutions. “Many of our clients have large volumes of content, so it is essential that we give users clear, intuitive ways of finding the specific research they’re looking for. During user testing for the Cochrane Library, it became clear that researchers wanted multiple categorisation options for the site’s 2 million content items, to help them find the needle in the haystack. The MeSH feature (link) is one of several solutions we implemented. It is a visualisation of a complex taxonomy structure, including a tree explorer and synonym list, allowing the user to delve into highly specific medical terms, and then pinpoint relevant content based on their selection.”
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We look forward to another quarter of shared success and innovation. As always, if we can help with any immediate or future publishing projects you may have, please get in touch.
