HighWire Launches ISA’s Open Access Journal Arboriculture & Urban Forestry

HighWire Press and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) announce the launch of ISA’s flagship research publication on HighWire’s journal hosting platform, improving user experience and content discoverability

PRINCETON, N.J., April XX 2023HighWire Press, the leading provider of publishing solutions to the scholarly community, is proud to announce the launch of Arboriculture & Urban Forestry (AUF), ISA’s flagship journal, on HighWire’s hosting platform.

Arboriculture & Urban Forestry (AUF), formerly known as the Journal of Arboriculture, had a reliance on PDF-only publication, which prompted ISA to seek HighWire’s end-to-end publishing solution. PDFs are now sent to Highwire for analysis and conversion to XML, where they are ingested into the platform, enriched with functionality, presented to end users, and delivered to downstream recipients. This allowed ISA to manage a single vendor for the whole process, reducing complexity and involving minimal staff effort.

The newly redesigned AUF journal website now benefits from an array of industry-leading journal functionality, presented through a modern UI at greatly increased speed. By aligning with industry-standard publishing practices, ISA’s invaluable research content now has measurably increased global reach and engagement.

“The many features of the JCore platform are raising the profile of Arboriculture & Urban Forestry and advancing ISA’s role in bringing industry-leading, peer-reviewed research to tree care professionals and researchers worldwide,” commented Caitlyn Pollihan, CEO and Executive Director of ISA.

“We are pleased to partner with the International Society of Arboriculture on this important project,” said Tony Alves, Senior Vice President of Products at HighWire. “By leveraging HighWire’s content hosting service, ISA now has a partner and the tools needed to improve how Arboriculture & Urban Forestry’s content is managed, accessed, and shared. This collaboration underscores HighWire’s commitment to empowering the scholarly community and advancing research dissemination. ”

The partnership, initially set for a five-year term, is already generating value, with site analytics showing a more global and engaged audience. This is due to the platform’s UX, which is informed by years’ of research with the scholarly community, and includes features like journal metrics, top picks, alerts, most cited, and most read.
