Federation of State Medical Boards Selects HighWire to Host the Journal of Medical Regulation’s New Digital Platform

HighWire Press, a global provider of innovative scholarly publishing platforms and services, has signed a new three-year deal to host the Journal of Medical Regulation (JMR) on its HighWire Hosting platform. This strategic upgrade enhances discoverability and engagement and makes regulatory information available sooner in a field where rapid dissemination is critical.

PRINCETON, N.J., 25 June 2025 – The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) has partnered with HighWire Press, the leading provider of digital publishing solutions for scholarly publishers, to host the Journal of Medical Regulation (JMR) on HighWire Hosting. The decision was made after a competitive RFP process with participation from multiple leading platform providers.

JMR, a peer-reviewed journal published by FSMB since 1913, is a primary outlet for research and insights into physician licensure, discipline, and regulation in the United States and globally. With the move to HighWire, FSMB will modernize its journal’s online presence while enhancing accessibility, discoverability, and content delivery for the medical regulatory community.

“FSMB was looking for a robust, modern hosting solution to support our journal’s growth and evolving needs,” said Kelly Hadsell, Managing Editor. “HighWire offers the flexibility, functionality, and support we need to better serve our readers and contributors.”

The new platform will offer:

  • Flexible branding and content packaging to reflect JMR’s authoritative identity
  • Advanced multimedia support to enrich articles’ supplemental materials with a range of options
  • Built-in analytics and reporting to support editorial strategy and decision-making
  • An Early Release model to accelerate access to the latest research and findings

As part of this collaboration, HighWire will host JMR’s current content along with a rolling 20-year archive, ensuring that key insights remain discoverable and accessible to the global community.

“FSMB’s work in physician regulation is critical to public health and medical practice,” said Tony Alves, SVP of Product Management at HighWire. “We are proud to support JMR with a digital experience that matches the journal’s history, reputation, and mission.”

The new site is slated to go live in 2026.
