NISO Plus Conference — Open Scholarship and Bibliodiversity
Promoting bibliodiversity is seen as a way to increase access to knowledge, reduce barriers to information, and foster a more collaborative and open scholarly community. Tony attended the NISO Plus conference in Baltimore, where he moderated a session on “Open Scholarship and Bibliodiversity” featuring six presenters from different parts of the world, all working on various open scholarship initiatives that support the principles of bibliodiversity. He summarizes the session in a two-part blog post. The first part covers access to diverse perspectives, and inclusivity and equity. The second part covers solutions to reducing publishing bias, encouraging innovations, and global collaboration.
STM US Conference Notes — AI in Publishing
Tony Alves, SVP of Product Management, attended the STM US Annual Conference in Washington, DC, April 24 and 25, 2024. The meeting centered on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on the landscape of scholarly publishing and communication. Key themes included the integration of AI as a core component of scholarly practices, enhancing collaboration between humans and machines, and addressing the infrastructural needs of the digital transformation in publishing. Tony’s report is in three parts. In this first installment he examines the presentation of the STM Trends 2028 infographic entitled, Re-imagining the Human Factor – Defining our place and values in the networked machine era. In this second installment he examines how the various players active in the research endeavor look at, and are preparing for, the future of scholarly communication. In the final installment he reports on a very forward-thinking journal editor who is embracing technology.
