The site brings together RCP’s two prestigious journals, Clinical Medicine (ClinMed) and Future Healthcare Journal (FHJ), into the same hosted location. This has improved user experience by making both journals available under a single URL, meaning readers can access all content without the barrier of having to navigate between different sites.
Further improvements include:
- Publish ahead of print: Articles in ClinMed and FHJ will be published online as soon as they are ready, without having to wait for the next issue of the print journal to be published. This will benefit both readers and authors as times to publication will come down.
- Subject collections: RCP has grouped content from both ClinMed and FHJ into subject collections, so users can now read up on the most popular topics in one place.
- Easy navigation: Both the overarching main menu and the menus for the individual journals have been designed to guide users to the desired information in just a few clicks. Content can be browsed easily by publication period, and background information about each journal — as well as information for authors, reviewers and advertisers – is easy to find.
- Improved mobile experience: The new site is optimized for mobile browsers to enhance users’ reading when they are on the go.
The site was built with Origins, a HighWire hosting solution that allows publishers to host multiple journals on a single, publisher branded site. This increases efficiency by enabling publishers to manage and simultaneously release new features, including design updates and product integrations, across all journals. Readers and researchers benefit from being able to seamlessly access content from multiple journals in one centralized space.
Future RCP site developments will include uniquely online content, such as online-only articles, author videos and podcasts.
Dr Natalie Wilder, Head of Corporate Communications and Publishing at RCP said: “Our journals were previously hosted on HighWire’s legacy platform. This upgrade has brought us up to speed with industry best-practice, providing our readers with a world-class journal experience, disseminating important new research quicker, and ensuring all of our content is as accessible as possible. With our new sites we have achieved a bright, modern interface that displays our content beautifully.”
John Sack, Founding Director at HighWire said: “We are very proud to support organizations like RCP who champion excellence in the provision of medical research. RCP’s new site is testament to their vision to boost discoverability and maximize the impact of both their current articles and rich archive.”
