Entire JACC Journals Program Now Hosted on HighWire’s JCore Platform
January 16th, 2017 - HighWire Press and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) are pleased to announce the re-launch of ACC’s journal program on a tailor-built version of HighWire’s industry leading platform solution, JCore. The new ACC publishing platform allows readers around the world and ACC’s 52,000 member physicians, surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and practice managers to find the content they need quickly, read it comfortably on nearly any device, and share content of interest with their colleagues.
ACC and HighWire worked closely to adapt the JCore platform interface to meet ACC’s specific publication program requirements. The result is a unique site design that presents a consistent and streamlined user experience for the entire journals program. Five established ACC journals, including the number one cardiovascular journal, JACC, are now migrated to the new, bespoke HighWire JCore platform. ACC’s newest publication, Basic to Translational Science, an OA journal first launched in August 2016 on a standard HighWire JCore offering, is now also on ACC’s customized interface.
“Our shared vision through the project has been to deliver the best online reading experience available anywhere. Delivering search results across the entire journal program in one step helps readers save time and find what they need. Our readers want one-click access to essential content and a consistent, uncluttered user experience. HighWire’s JCore platform enabled us to design an all-in-one view and showcase our in-demand content, such as clinical guidelines and multimedia features,” said Kim Murphy, Publishing Director of the American College of Cardiology. She elaborated, “Teamwork and collaboration were essential to the success of a migration and re-launch of this magnitude. The HighWire team’s contributions to the process were as essential to success as the flexibility and scalability of their technology platform.”
With this unique JCore implementation, the user interface is designed to deliver content in as few clicks as possible. ACC publishing staff have configured their websites specifically in support of the society’s goals. JCore’s open architecture will allow the ACC to continuously respond and adapt to new business needs quickly. For example, ACC and HighWire plan to launch single sign-on for members and a streamlined approach to individual article purchases from the subscription-based journals using HighWire’s e-commerce capability.
“HighWire’s collaboration with the American College of Cardiology is among our most successful. We value ACC’s customer-focused approach; they did their homework and validated their market and stakeholder knowledge through research. We worked closely with them to extensively adapt and customize our JCore platform interface to deliver a great user experience that meets ACC’s specific publication program requirements. We’re committed to fast response times and world-class platform reliability — readers can count on getting what they need quickly,” said Dan Filby, CEO, HighWire Press. HighWire offers the widest range of customization available among the leading content-hosting platforms in the Information industry. Publishers are able to provide their own designs, work with an outside design agency, or use one of the HighWire standard design templates, which can be altered to suit any additional branding needs.
